In Recognition of Earth Day, Donate Your “E-Waste”

When you do your spring cleaning this year, don’t forget to get rid of those no-longer-used electronics like cell phones, computers, printers, screens, monitors, televisions, etc. But don’t take them to the landfill! Electronics contain several toxic elements, such as lead, cadmium, and beryllium that can leach into the earth, polluting it and our water.

Instead, bring your electronics to Lakewood where Supreme Asset Management and Recovery, an e-waste recycling and remarketing company, is holding a recycling event in recognition of Earth Day 2008, on Saturday, April 12, 2008, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., FirstEnergy Park parking lot (Home of the BlueClaws), 2 Stadium Way, Lakewood.

The cost is $5.00 a car load and all proceeds will be donated to LADACIN Network, a nonprofit organization that provides education, therapy, social, residential, and support services for people with cerebral palsy and other physical disabilities.

According to authorities, an estimated billion people participated globally in 2007 Earth Day activities, making it one of the largest Earth Days to date.

Charlie McFadden, vice president of operations at SAMR, says, “During this recycling event, we will be collecting anything considered electronic waste or ‘E-waste’: computers, monitors, televisions, batteries of any kind, printers, key boards, cell phones, and even wires.”

Supreme Asset Management and Recovery, located at 1950 Rutgers University Boulevard, Lakewood, has been in business since 1992. McFadden says, “Our goal is to keep e-waste and all the toxic elements they contain from going into landfills. Most people are not aware that monitors and televisions alone contain three to five pounds of lead.”

For further information, call Kirsten Difenderfer, the director of asset management for SAMR, at 732-987-8180.
